It’s official, folks: the so-called “swimming anime” that has formed an entire fandom almost overnight despite its existence being uncertain will be produced by Kyoto Animation as a 13-episode anime series entitled Free!, based on the graphic novel wrtitten by Kouji Ouji. (Which could mean that the “corporate commercial” was a legit teaser after all.)

It is set to premiere this July on ABC (Asahi Broadcasting), TOKYO MX, and Niconico, among others.
